Flannel Friday: I'm Driving in My Car

Next week, I'll be starting a special session of Mother Goose on the Loose. I'm offering it during the time we usually take a break from storytimes. So, I've decided to use all of my favorite rhymes and songs.

I'm Driving in My Car
From Mother Goose on the Loose
By Betsy Diamant-Cohen

I'm driving in my car
I'm driving in my car
Beep, beep! Toot, toot!
I'm driving in my car.
Additional verses: I'm driving very fast, I'm driving very slow

I love Byron Barton's car from My Car. So, I decided to make a flannel version of it to accompany the song above. As my flannel board is red, I had to change the colors somewhat so it will stand out. I love the illustration with the car pulled apart. First, I'll put up the whole car and ask what it is and what noises it makes. After we sing the song and share the book, I can pull it apart for a review.

I even made a little Sam to drive! Flannel Friday Round-Up will be appearing In the Children's Room this week. I'm also sharing with Montessori Monday.

Sensory Tub: Transportation

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about a sensory tub fail. With a little more preparation and using items from our school for the Transportation theme, we had a success (and no eating the props!). I used blue tempera paint for the water, foam boat and helicopter cut-outs and shaving cream for puffy clouds. I sprinkled some glitter on the clouds to make them sparkle.

I added yellow and blue elements like a duck, strainer, pitcher and boats. I filled a spray bottle with green water, because that's what you get when you mix yellow and blue. Finally, I filled up the tub with blue water. Bobo's favorite part of the bath was spraying the clouds to make green rain.

Tot School: Transportation 2

Thank goodness I had some coloring pages handy! Bobo has been on a coloring kick. He wants everything to look "just right." He asks for coloring books everyday. Today, he wanted to make bombs. I was trying to put together new activities, and that wasn't on the agenda. So, I asked him to play with the magnets on the board. That reminded him of his favorite magnet activity, the skeleton. Unfortunately, it was buried in the Halloween box and I couldn't get to it, either.

When he asked for another coloring page, I gave him this pattern page. He drew an astronaut inside and then was done with this activity.

Stacking "tires"

Tire matching

More stickers. These were fun, because he built a road with stickers, then placed the little car stickers and signs everywhere.

Crazy drum solo. It's blurred because he was drumming so fast!
